MODERN ARNIS REMY P. PRESAS INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION

We have reprinted the Rosemary Presas interview from the June 2008 FMA Digest. This issue has become controversial in the world of FMA and in particular, the Modern Arnis world. This is recommended reading for all MARPPIO followers and FMA practitioners in general. This article, among the other articles in that issue, is explicit in it's position of the Presas family's role and leadership in Modern Arnis.

I was very privileged to have heard the original recording Mr. Armijo made while talking to Mrs. Presas, her pride in her son Grandmaster Presas and the rest of the family shone through in every thing she said.

It's really too bad that people got as upset as they did about this issue of the FMAdigest, particularly because it didn't really say anything people shouldn't have already known. However, we are fortunate to have resources like this and others on ModernArnis.com. These are things people will be still reading in 20-50 years, maybe even 100 or 200 years, to learn about the history of Modern Arnis.

Hi Joel,

You're not kidding about people being upset by all this. Case in point: I posted something on FMATalk>Modern Arnis section as a response to someone who wanted to know (and the following is exactly the question that I responded to) 'What exactly is modern arnis?' I replied by telling him to go to the MARPPIO website to learn everything there is to know about Modern Arnis and 'they know better than anyone else about this style' and 'Dr. Remy P. Presas Jr. is the leader of modern arnis'. The very next post was someone who took umbrage to those two points and started mentioning other people -- Americans who are not related to the Presas family in any way -- being leaders of Modern Arnis and that those people would dispute Dr. Remy's leadership. I'm sure they would -- they're making lots of money at it and people get angry if they're stack of benjamins gets taken away.

In any case, my post was TAKEN DOWN. You cannot find it. Apparently, one of the other Grandmasters of modern arnis was upset by it and got the FMATalk webmaster (who apparently is on their payroll) to take it down. I posted another response supporting MARPPIO and also cited the recent FMA Digest article with Rosemary Presas. At the end of this post, I mentioned that I would terminate membership to that stupid website. Apparently, THAT post is gone too. Hmmmm....

This site, our website is AWESOME...it's as good a site technically speaking, that can be on the Internet at the moment and from what I've heard, is doing really well in spreading the gospel of MARPPIO to anyone who visits and there are A LOT of visitors.

You're right to say that this Presas family story will continue to be told many years from now and the indisputable truth of the family's obvious relationship to the late GM Remy Presas can never be erased. I am guessing that there will be more resistance from the other Grandmasters (at this point, does ANYONE know HOW MANY LIVING Grandmasters there are in Modern Arnis?) whom, at the moment, are using every bit of weird and questionable legal citations to discredit the ownership, leadership and the integrity of the Presas family. Go and visit the FMA Talk and Martial Talk boards and you will see how nervous and shrill these guys are becoming.

The day of reckoning has come and now all others who claim ownership of the Presas family's art will be held accountable for what they have done. At the end of the day, the truth is still that Presas family were there at the very beginning of the creation of Modern Arnis. And because they are full-blooded Filipinos, born and raised in the PI, have the benefit of the history, tradition and hundreds of years legacy of Filipino martial arts.

The American Grandmasters and that German guy have had 'leadership' for...what...15 years, tops? Hmmmm. Let's not call it leadership...it's really market share, isn't it?
