Blade Attacker in Gig Harbor WA! 2 Months, 2 Weeks ago

About 15 minutes ago, my daughter called. She was driving up a street in Gig Harbor and a young man, covered in blood was running up the streets with a large knife and slashing at vehicles as they drove by. My daugther swerved, missed the attack and dialled 911 as she got the hell out of there!! The drama is still unfolding as the guy has run into the woods. Where his is now, who knows. There are a lot of homes in the area. Would you like to meet this guy while relaxing in the back yard. Hmmm?
Fellow Arnistors, This is why we train with the blade and carry the blade! Think about it, Gig Harbor is a lilly-white upper class type, no gang-bangers but a bunch of spoiled and screwed up little sh**heads that are used to getting thier way and know that the law will probably let them go, if not, daddy's attorney will get em off. In other words, the chance of meeting a weapon carrying nutcase can happen everywhere. Would you like to deal with this situation empty handed? I think not!
My carry is a 5" closed balisong with a pocket clip, some tape on the tang keeps it locked shut. The balisong closed is the best Dulo-Dulo tool I have ever found, but when opened capable of giving me a good chance of survival and would help turn the table in case that I had to meet steel with steel.
The best way to deal with the blade is with the blade! Simple as that. This is why I always have the blade clipped into my back pocket,Those of you who know me, know that I am not the black and velcro clothed Tactical type. I look just like the typical middle aged, middle classed white guy. In other words, you might as well paint a target on me as prey! You will never, ever, find me without this blade clipped right alongside my wallet!
What happened in sleepy old Gig Harbor today just reinforces my belief in blade carry. No need to get anal about it, but having some training on BLADE DEFENSE with THE BLADE is a must in todays society. Hell, I'll let the other guy try and grab or kick the blade outa this nutcase's hand. Me, I'd cut it out, then go home.

Guro, Chris,
You are correct that this can happen ANYWHERE! It seems we hear more and more instances where this kind of crap is going on. We as Martial Artists have an obligation to be prepared as an example to ourselves, families, students, etc.
Time and time again, supposed black belts, get beat up and even killed by not being prepared. (Most likely because they have not applied what they have learned to real world situations, i.e. full contact, weapons, mass attack, etc.)
Get trained in proper carry and deploying procedures, no matter the weapon, and have the WILL to use it. Your life and the life of a friend or loved one may count on it!
