"Seattle Modern Arnis Academy provides training in the Martial Arts of Arnis, Kali & Escrima. At our SMA training center you will learn Single Stick, Double Stick, Filipino Bolo, Traditional Sword & Knife techniques and empty hand techniques that involve everything from kicking, sweeping, throwing , boxing skills, along with knees & elbow striking & joint locking techniques.
Seattle Modern Arnis draws on the concepts of Arnis, Kali, Escrima, JKD, Karate, Taekwondo, Silat, Judo & Aikido. Keyword...concepts! Modern Arnis is just that...modern! Modern Arnis is about changing, adapting & integrating. The FMA is not based on rigid rules or outdated kata. The effectiveness of Modern Arnis relies in its simplicity of movement, and its flexibility & adaptability to the individual martial artist. Everything about Modern Arnis works...and works together!
The Filipino Martial Arts and Modern Arnis have a very rich history, going back hundreds of years and continuing to evolve to this day. Modern Arnis was a term & style developed by Grandmaster Remy P. Presas in 1957. Modern Arnis continued to develop and evolve as the founder evolved. Modern Arnis is alive and well and continues to grow with the founders son Remy Presas Jr. and the M.A.R.P.P.I.O. organization. Seattle Modern Arnis is a proud member of M.A.R.P.P.I.O. and supports the expansion of Modern Arnis & the Filipino Martial Arts worldwide.
The USA Moo Sool Association was founded in 1986 to promote the Filipino Martial Arts of Arnis, Kali & Escrima and the Korean Art of Taekwondo. Seattle Modern Arnis is the oldest Filipino martial arts school in the Seattle, Washington and is a member of the USA Moo Sool Association.
