How to count to ten in Tagalog
When you count from one to ten in Tagalog, the emphasis is on the final syllable. The mistake non-Filipinos tend to make when counting in this dialect is that the emphasis is in the wrong spot. Here are the numbers and the way to pronounce them:
- isa (ee-SAH)
- dalawa (duh-lah-WAH)
- tatlo (tat-LOH)
- apat (ah-POT)
- lima (leem-AH)
- anim (ah-NEEM)
- pito (pee-TAW)
- walo (wall-AWE)
- siyam (SHUMB)
- sampu (sum-POH)
Interesting point: there is no Tagalog word for ZERO (0.00), however there is a word for the concept of NOTHING: wala (wall-AH). Wala literally means nothing, or nothing is happening.
